Nanotechnology is an umbrella term that covers many
areas of science dealing with objects that are measured
in nanometers. A nanometer (nm) is a billionth of a
meter. Nanotechnology is sometimes even referred to
as general-purpose technology, because in its mature
form it will have significant impact on almost all industries
and all areas of society.
The technology involves manipulation/fabrication of
atoms individually and placing them in a pattern to
produce the desired structure. More precisely it provides
a platform to work on a nano or sub micron scale to
create intelligent structures that are stronger and
have fundamentally different performance-enhancing molecular/atomic
organizations. Working on a nano-scale allows the building
of molecular architectures that can be specifically
designed to create desirable attributes.
Thus providing us with products that are lighter, stronger,
smarter, safer, cheaper, cleaner and more precise.
